[Haul] Doing Something Different

Since we’ve been saving for our trip, recently we haven’t had any spare cash to spend on shopping, but a couple of days ago I got my deposit back from my university accommodation, so of course the first thing I did was blow most of it in store! Actually, I went with the intention of getting just a cheap pair of heels (which I need desperately) but although I didn’t get those, I did get a few other things and even stepped out of our comfort zone.
The first few things I got were actually also things I needed desperately and that would be these two wonderful lip lacquers and this gorgeous make-up case! Until now we’ve been keeping our complete make-up collection stuffed into a little bag and honestly it’s been a pain trying to find anything in there, especially when you’re in a rush. Also, I have next to no lip makeup so I was dying for some good ones, and fortunately I got these two gorgeous lip lacquers, they go on like a gloss but even after the gloss fades the colour still remains like a tint.

Now, those two lip colours are nicely tucked away into our lovely make-up case; we’ve used the different sections to separate our make into categories making everything much easier to find. That aside, the case has a gorgeous interior (sued to our monochrome taste) and a lot of space at the bottom where we can keep our loose accessories and other things. On top of that, the case comes with two keys so you can easily lock everything up and transport them anywhere. The only down side is it’s a bit on the heavy side since it’s so full!

Also, as you all know, both Hanzel and I are known for our monochrome style, so it was a given we’d get a few monochrome pieces to add to the collect.

Striped Tank Top: £2.50 | Lace Sleeves Sport-Fan Tee: £1 | Bow Accented Striped Flats: £4 | 2-Tone T-Shirt: £2 | Stars & Stripes Crop Top: £1 | Translucent Striped Pullover:£6 ・ Primark
These items, as plain as they might be, are all true to our fashion obsessions: we’re already known for our love of black and white stripes, and when it comes to patterns, stripes come second only to stars (and cats) for us. Therefore pretty much anything with two or more of those prints on it has to be in our wardrobe.

Moreover, we’re completely in love with some of the major summer trends this year, including crop tops, (what we call) sports-fan tees and transparent clothing. Actually this is the third piece of transparent clothing we’ve brought consecutively this summer, and once again, when you mix two things we love, we want it all the more.

This time round we also tried venturing out of our comfort zone and brought a couple pieces we’d often seen around places like tumblr but never been brave enough to wear ourselves. It may never have occurred to you before but there are some things we always stay clear of when it comes to fashion, first is casual dresses and second is floral prints.

Lace Summer Dress: £13 ・ Primark
Because the way we wear MODE-kei uses a lot of ‘plain’ clothing, we tend to focus more on accessorising, so it’s become hard for me to wear casual dresses because I tend to over accessorise and make them look more like party dresses - which usually is fine (since we’re into MODE-kei after all) but some days you just want a more minimal look. I brought this dress as a challenge to myself to avoid doing that.

Another challenge I’ve set is overcoming our BURING HATRED FOR FLORAL PRINTS. We don’t know what it is about them but we just hate, hate, HATE floral prints… until recently that is! This year we’ve been seeing lots of unusual prints used in different ways that don’t make them look so overbearing. Florals this year seem to be much more uniform and less colourful, making them at lot easier on the eyes, and we wanted to try and learn to incorporate this into our style, as we think that the odd splash of pattern here and there can really set an outfit apart.

Floral Front Panel Pullover: £8 | Printed Jogging Bottoms: £3 ・ Primark
And finally are the jogging bottoms… Okay, so the jogging bottoms aren’t really as dramatic a change as the other two style-wise, but we’re hoping to change lifestyle-wise too, since we really want to start getting back in shape this late-summer. Lately, we’ve reminisced a lot about our athletics days and although we doubt we’ll be going back to track and field any time soon, it would be nice to tone up some of our problem areas and just get healthy again.
And that’s it for this haul! There were a couple of interesting pieces but not too much to talk about since our budget is so tight at the moment (go back and check out those bargain prices in case you didn’t notice them first time round!) Let us know what you thought of some of the stuff we got, totally love it? Totally hate it? We’re curious to know why!?
