『메이크업을 서머 프루프에 대한 10 팁』:: 10 Tips to Summer-Proof Your Make-up

The weather has finally reached its peak meaning summer is officially here and it’s time to get out your beach shorts and ditch your tights. But as great as summer is, there’s nothing worse than having your face melt half way through the day due to sweat! But no more, after reading this post you should be equip with enough tips to help your look last - even if the rest of you melts, at least you can be a gorgeous/handsome puddle!
Tip 1:: Keep It Thin
Probably one of the most forgot rules for surviving the summer heat: keep your make-up thin! The more layers you add on, the stuffier you’re going to feel, and as a result the more you’re going to sweat and the sooner your make-up will start to melt.

As if that wasn’t bad enough, thicker make-up is also more noticeable when it runs, you don’t want there to be visible streaks on the side of your face where your foundation has melted.
Planning on wearing sunglasses all day? Why not let up on the eye make-up, or skip out all together? Or if you can’t reduce the amount of make-up you use, try using lighter products and thinner layers.
Tip 2:: Primer
For those who don’t know, primer’s main purpose is to make your make-up last longer, which is perfect for helping your face stay in tack during the hot seasons. Although it is adding a layer, primers (well, good ones) are usually light. Also, you can get primers with tinted moisturisers or built in foundations, which helps you to reduce the number of layers you need, and also means there’s less between the primer and the rest of your make-up which will help it to last longer too.

Different primers can be used in different ways and for different things, some are designed especially for eye make-up and some are even designed to go on top of your foundation. If you’re unfamiliar with primers, simple ask someone at your local make-up store or start with a basic primer and slowly work your way into new things. As I mentioned before, good primers should be light and you shouldn’t even feel the extra layer.
Tip 3:: Switch to Powdered Foundation + Avoid Liquid Foundations
"But I love my liquid foundation!!” they cried in protest. Well… tough. Unfortunately, liquid foundations are thicker than powders which means they’re more likely to make you feel stuffy and make your make-up run, besides it never hurt to try something new.

There are a number of reasons why powders are better than liquid foundations for summer make-up. Firstly, they’re lighter and easier to apply thinly/evenly which means they’re less lightly to make you feel stuffy, and they can absorb more moisture (as they’re drier) than liquid foundations which means you’ll sweat less. On top of that, they’re a lot less noticeable when they do run, as you have to sweat A LOT before they form visible streaks. Powders are also easier to reapply.

If you’re brave enough to make a change to powders, or even if you already use them, then loose powders applied with a cushion as opposed to a sponge/brush are most recommendable as they give a thinner and lighter coverage than compressed powders.
Tip 4:: Switch to Pencil/Gel Liners + Avoid Liquid Liners
We’ve all seen a movie with a girl whose cried so hard that all her black eye make-up has run down her face… well, let’s avoid you becoming the sweaty version of that. The reasoning behind this is quite simple: liquid liners will run and smudge easier with your sweat (same applies if you get hit by a summer shower,) so its best to cut them out all together.

Pencil liners and gel liners will last longer and are a lot more smudge resistant. Also pencils tend to work better on slightly damp skin and gels tend to be long-lasting or waterproof.
For some extra resistance, you can add eye shadow over the top of your liner to set it as the eye shadow will also absorb some of the moisture helping your make-up to last longer.
Tip 5:: Use Cream, Gel or Tint Blush > Powdered Blush
I know before I suggested switching to powders for your base, but there is a reason behind this contradiction, so bare with me. Primarily, the reason you should avoid powdered blushes when possible is because putting layers and layers of powder on your face is just making your make-up thicker, which completely defeats the purpose of you switching to powders to begin with. But if powdered blush is all you have, then simply focus on light application.

As for why creams/gels/tints are better? Well, that’s because you don’t have to apply as much as if you were using a powder, and that’s because all three of these have built in tints that are absorbed by your skin and foundation, meaning not only is the colour more prominent despite you using less but the colour also lasts much longer. Also, as the colour is absorbed, it leaves less layers on your skin afterwards.
Tip 6:: Lip Tints > Glosses + Lipsticks
Now, unlike most other make up, lip gloss and lipstick won’t run when you sweat, but instead they do melt slightly (especially lipstick) and give you sticky lips with the heat. This also makes them more prone to smearing.

Lip tints are a great alternative to this as the colour is absorbed into your lips so there’s nothing to melt or get sticky, you also won’t need to reapply as frequently and it won’t smear if you accidentally wipe your lips.
Tip 7:: Stick To Long Lasting/Waterproof Products
These products, as the name suggests, are designed to last longer, and if you’ve ever used a good waterproof product, you know they can be a pain to remove, meaning they’ll be more resilient against your sweat too and are more likely to last all day. These products won’t run or smudge nearly as much as others would.
Tip 8:: Use Oil-free Products All Around
This extends pass just your make-up but to your moisturisers as well, lots of oil-based products makes your skin more moist and oil makes you more susceptible to heat, both meaning you will end up sweating more.

Oil-free products are also good for your skin as too much oil can lead to spots and acne. During summer, your pours are wider as they open up to release sweat, but this also means its easier for oil and dirt to get trapped in them, so using oil-free products once again prevents this from happening and keeps your skin in good condition.
Tip 9:: Dry Shampoo to Stop Head/Hair Sweats
A lot of the sweat that ruins your make up comes from your forehead, hairline or bangs, especially if you have thick hair or wear wigs. A good way to battle against this is to carry a little bit of dry shampoo around with you and spray it as soon as you start to feel sweats coming on.

The dry shampoo absorbs the moisture and stops your sweating as much and as quickly, you can also use it as many times as you need to. The sooner you spray it, the sooner it stops you sweating and you avoid having your make-up ruined to begin with.
Tip 10:: Oil Removal Wipes and Blotting Papers/Films
Once again, pretty self-explanatory, but the hard part about this one is that you want to use it more when you aren’t wearing make-up and before you put make-up on. All of these products will reduce the amount of oil in your skin, keeping your skin in good condition and making you less susceptible to the heat.

There are may types of these products that you can find on the market, some are also more ideal than others for using while wearing make-up, but if your make-up does run, rather than using a tissue to wipe away the sweat, use one of these as it’ll remove more of the sweat and keep your skin drier for longer after you reapply your make-up.

I especially recommend these if you wear glasses and are tired of your make up getting rubbed off  where you get those little marks on the sides of your nose from the oil getting trapped under the feet of your glasses.
And that’s it! My 10 tips to summer-prood your make-up. Hopefully if you follow all these steps correctly, you’ll notice a significant reduction in the amount of times you have to reapply your make-up on hot days this summer.
Why not tell me what you think of my tips, or if you have any tips of your own you think should be on this list?
