Some of you may already know, but we major in Korean Language (and business management) in University, and as part of our course we have a compulsory year abroad in South Korea!
As of this August 22nd, we’ll be living and breathing Korean lifestyle, but we don’t want this to just be an awesome opportunity for us, but for you guys too!
We’ve had an interest in Asian culture for a long time (8 years to be exact,) but we’ve never had the chance to visit Asia because it wasn’t financially possible for our family, however now the opportunity has been opened up to us, and we want to share this opportunity with any of you who might be stuck in similar situations.
Fashion::
One thing we’re looking forward to experiencing is the low prices of fashion and the much wider range of cosmetics available in the East. We’re sure you guys must have a couple of Korean/Japanese cosmetic products you’ve heard of but have never seen on the shelves, right? Well we want to give you the opportunity to discover more of those and even get your hands on some.
Likewise, our favourite brands are all Korean and Japanese and it’s not easy to get your hands on those things on this side of the planet especially without ridiculous shipping prices too. Because of this, we’re planning to do a couple giveaways/competitions in future of whatever you guys want! Send in requests on things you’d like us to review or put up for grabs and if funds allow it, we’ll do our best to give you guys a chance to win some!
Personally, we’re particularly looking forward to Korean people’s response to Japanese street fashion since Korean fashion is much more reserved. It’ll be interesting to see how people respond to Shironuri, something we want to try really soon! Also we plan to get our hair done during our first few weeks there so we’ll be sure to document that too.
Culture + Lifestyle::
Our blog is currently dedicated to Asian fashion but we thought this might be an opportunity to grow from just a fashion blogger to a fashion and lifestyle blogger. We intend to do lots of videos and blog posts on life in Asia, things we experience, places we go, food we eat and pretty much anything that catches our fancy.
In that spirit, if there’s something you’ve always been curious about, now would be the time to ask, we’ll try to answer all the questions we get with a video or a blog post. If your interests extend over from Korea to Japan then be sure to ask those questions too, we didn’t study Japanese for 8 years to get as close as Korea and not visit ;D *hint hint*
Language Learning::
On the topic of languages, this will also be an opportunity to help those of you who are interested in learning the Korean and Japanese languages.
We won’t do videos specifically on language (unless people REALLY want them) since we don’t have a teaching degree and therefore don’t feel qualified, but we’re currently brainstorming whether or not to do videos IN Korean or Japanese whenever the topic of the video is on something from one of those cultures.
If we do it probably won’t be every video and there will be subtitles with romanization and English for those of you who wish to learn. If you’re interested be sure to let us know!
